Alg4Nut - Algae in Ruminant Feeding: Microbiological and Functional Foundations, Prebiotic Effects, and the Feasibility of Algae Cultivation in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Project Description:

As part of the Initiative for Applied Excellence in Research in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, we are collaborating with 8 partners from 5 institutions on the “Alg4Nut” consortium project to investigate the impact of marine algae cultivable in the Baltic Sea region on animal nutrition. In the Department of Microbiology at the University of Rostock, our work within this project focuses primarily on the physiology and biochemistry of the microbial degradation of algal polysaccharides and on the development of biotechnological production strains.

Project Leader: Prof. Dr. Mirko Basen

Project Coordinator: Saedeeh Ebadat
Project Staff: Sonja Kurrer / Karin Krangemann
Duration: April 1, 2025–March 31, 2029
